Reed’s iconic drug and debauchery concept record & follow up to Transformer was a sure sign he was on indeed one sterling form and officially freed from the shackles of the VU legacy and a solo artist on his own merit. Reed had never been to Berlin but loved the idea of a divided city and this LP reads very much as his story.
