‘The Naked Lunch’ was first published in 1959. The novel follows the narration of junkie William Lee (and his various aliases) from the USA to Mexico, and finally ‘Interzone’. Constructed as a series of vignettes which can be read in any order, it’s a surreal sci-fi masterpiece which was adapted to film in 1991 by David Cronenberg
