Another alt hip hop milestone in glorious physical form. Here we have Brooklyn jazz rap legends Digable Planets' debut studio album 'Reachin' (A New Refutation Of Time And Space)', released on Pendulum / Elektra Records in 1993
It's a certified golden-age concious hip hop classic with thoughtful rhymes and gorgoeous dusty beats. Planets' producer Ishmael Butler aka Butterfly admitted that his heavy use of jazz samples wasn't necessarily a creative decision - more a case of practicality, having raided his dad's record collection which happened to consist mostly of those sounds. It certainly worked out nicely! A timeless, special album that we return to over and over in the studio...
