The explicitly personal lyrics and eclectic musical influences on 'Siamese Dream' really made it stand out from the crowd at time of release, and cemented the Pumpkins reputation as true innovators within the alt rock scene. The combination of Corgan's deeply honest writing - about depression and suicidal thoughts (in 'Today'), and his autistic half-brother Jesse (in 'Spaceboy') - and ambitious recording techniques/high production values (with more help from 'Gish' co-producer Butch Vig) make this a milestone album that remains unique and special to this day.
